Smart Airport Systems Signs Strategic Agreement to Accelerate Sustainable TaxiBot Operations at Schiphol
Smart Airport Systems (SAS) is proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) alongside KLM, Royal Schiphol Group, and Airbus to further develop and scale TaxiBot operations at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
This collaboration represents an important step toward accelerating sustainable aviation and creating the next generation of green taxiing solutions. The TaxiBot is a unique system enabling aircraft to taxi with ENG OFF procedures while pilots remain fully in control. By significantly reducing engine usage during ground movements, TaxiBot contributes directly to reducing CO2 emissions aviation, lowering fuel consumption, and supporting carbon neutral airport ambitions.
Combined with broader APU OFF initiatives and airport electrification programs—including technologies such as GPU, PCA (Pre Conditioned Air), FEGP (Fixed Electrical Ground Power) and integrated COMBO solutions—TaxiBot forms part of a wider ecosystem designed to support Zero Ground Emission airport operations.
After more than 70 live missions and over 16 kilotons of kerosene saved, the next phase now begins: developing a new generation of TaxiBot solutions that are smaller, faster, and even better adapted to future operational requirements.
This collaboration demonstrates how international partnerships and innovation can generate meaningful impact—improving airside working conditions, supporting sustainable aviation, accelerating airport decarbonization, and creating more efficient operations for the future of aviation.
At Smart Airport Systems, we remain committed to helping airports and airlines transition toward cleaner and smarter ground operations.
